Servings 1 Smoothie (24 oz)
- 1/2 cup milk of choice
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1 cup frozen or fresh beets
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 tbsp honey
- Juice from 1 lemon or blend the lemon whole
- 1 tsp of ginger
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp cloves
- 1/2 tsp allspice
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp orange zest
- 1 tbsp flaxseed or chia seeds
Optional Add-ins:
- 1/2 cup frozen blueberries or cherries for a more fruit-forward taste (add an extra half cup of liquid as well)
- 1/4 cup Greek yogurt for protein (creates a creamier texture)
- 1/4 cup rolled oats for fiber and protein (creates a thicker blend as well)
Start by pouring the liquid into your blender.
Next, toss in the spices and add-ins of your choice.
Add the beets and frozen banana last.
Hit that button and blend until smooth, about 1-2 minutes.
Add more liquid if the mixture is too thick and continue blending to achieve your desired consistency. Pour into a glass and enjoy!
Beet Prep Instructions:
- This recipe is intended to be used with raw frozen beets. Simply wash, peel, and roughly chop the beets into smaller pieces. Then add the beets to a Smootheeze freezer tray along with a splash of water and freeze overnight to make 1/2 cup portions that are easy to pop into the blender.
- You may find there is a slightly pulpy texture when using raw beets. If so, microwave or boil the beets first until very tender. Let cool and then add to your Smootheeze freezer tray.
Flavor Notes:
- Beets pair well with mulling spices and can tolerate a large amount, as they bring out the sweetness of the beets. Feel free to double the spice amounts to enjoy an extra dose of fall flavors.
