How to Use & Care for Smootheeze Freezer Trays
Smootheeze trays make smoothie prep effortless—and with a little care, they’ll last you decades.
Unlike plastic containers that crack and wear out, our premium silicone trays are built to last, making them the perfect choice for freezing your smoothie ingredients with zero waste.
Prepping Ingredients with Smootheeze
Here’s everything you need to know to get started with your Smootheeze trays:
- Before the first use, wash your trays with dish soap and warm water, then let them dry completely.
- Dishwasher safe: Pop them in the dishwasher, ideally inserting them vertically to avoid debris collecting in the cavities.
- Handle with care: Silicone trays are quite durable–they hold their shape well and can withstand moderate pulling and twisting. However, avoid using sharp knives or tools on them as silicone can be easily cut.
For the Smootheeze Easy Banana Freeze Tray:
- Peel and place bananas directly into the tray cavities. Breaking them into halves or quarters makes blending easier later.
- You can also slice or mash bananas and spoon them into the trays if you plan to use them for cooking or baking.
- Secure the lid and freeze for at least 4 hours. Place the lid on the tray and press firmly around the entire perimeter of the tray. Lift one corner to press out the air and secure the corner again.
For the Smootheeze 1/2 Cup Cube Tray:
- Prep your ingredients by washing and chopping them as needed. Pack the trays tightly without overfilling, as some ingredients expand when frozen.
- Certain fruits like berries and leafy greens often do not freeze into solid cubes. You can ensure cubes freeze as solid pieces and make them easier to remove from the trays by
- pressing down on the fruit so it mashes slightly
- or adding a small amount water to each cavity after filling it with berries or greens
- Secure the lid and freeze for at least 8 hours.
- Place the lid on the tray and press firmly around the entire perimeter of the tray. Lift one corner to press out the air and secure the corner again.
You can freeze just about anything: berries, tropical fruits, leafy greens, veggies, nut butters, herbs, spices, and even liquids like coconut milk. While the lid is leakproof, be sure to lay the trays flat in the freezer to prevent ingredients from mixing. Once frozen, feel free to store the trays vertically to save space.
Tips for Maintaining Freshness:
- Snap it shut: Press the lid firmly around the edges until it locks in place.
- Air out: Lift a corner of the lid to press out any trapped air, then re-secure the lid.
- Prevent frost: Smootheeze trays keep ingredients separated, but condensation can still lead to ice crystals. Here’s how to reduce that:
- After cleaning, let the trays dry completely, or store them in the freezer until ready for use.
- Drain and pat ingredients dry to remove excess moisture before freezing.
- Let ingredients cool in the fridge before packing them into trays.
- Pack ingredients tightly, pressing out as much air as possible before sealing.
- If you notice ice on the underside of the lid, wipe it off with a towel and quickly resecure.
- Keep the freezer at a consistent temperature, and don’t leave trays out while blending.
Some frozen condensation is normal, but following these tips will help keep your ingredients at their best for 3-4 weeks.
How to Care for and Clean Smootheeze Trays
Smootheeze trays are durable and easy to maintain. Here’s how to keep them in tip-top shape:
- Made from premium materials: Our trays are crafted from high-quality, platinum-cured, food-grade silicone. They’re BPA-free, and free from lead, PVC, and phthalates.
- Dishwasher safe: Place them on the top or bottom rack, or wash them by hand with mild soap and warm water.
Pro tip: Over time, stains, soap residue, or odors can build up. If that happens, try one of these deep cleaning methods:
- Citrus Scrub: Cut a chunk of lemon or lime (with peel) and use it as a scrubber. Rub it on all surfaces and let the oils sit for 15 minutes before rinsing with hot water.
- Baking Soda Paste: Mix equal parts water and baking soda to create a paste. Coat the tray and leave overnight, then scrub with a sponge and rinse with hot water.
- Boiling Method: Boil the trays in a mixture of 2 parts water and 1 part white vinegar for 15-20 minutes, then rinse and let them air dry.
With the right care, your Smootheeze trays will stay fresh and functional for many years, making smoothie prep smoother than ever.
